Located on the primary pedestrian approach to Malta’s capital, Valletta, Triton’s Fountain has been an iconic landmark since its completion in May 1959. The designers, sculptor Vincent Apap and draughtsman Victor Anastasi drew on mythology for the Fountain’s theme, which consists of three bronze mermen holding a large basin aloft. Unfortunately, the Fountain succumbed to the ravages of time. And it would take a major restoration project completed in January 2018 for the Tritons to regain their rightful place as a monument worth viewing.
